This sport originated - by accident - in the USA. At the time, ferrets where used to thread cables through pipes being laid across the country. These cables were used to pull cameras through the pipes, the cameras being used to check the welds on the inside of the pipes. At the end of the day, the workers decide to gamble on which of the ferrets would run through a length of pipe in the shortest time. From those beginnings, UK enthusiasts have helped the idea evolve to the sport which you will see today.

In our race, five ferrets are be placed in starting boxes specifically made for the purpose. When released, the ferrets will have in front of them several lengths of piping, placed end to end, down which they will need to pass to get to the opening at the far end. Between each length of piping is a wire mesh covered area, designed to allow the audience to view the ferrets as they proceed along the race course. A long length of piping provides the finishing straight, and the winner is the first ferret to emerge completely from the end of this long pipe.

The ferrets are completely unpredictable, and will excite, amuse and frustrate those watching the fun.
